Tires and Wheels

1.) How can I find my tire size?
You can find your tire size located on a yellow label in the driver door jam or listed as the series of numbers on your tire’s sidewall. If you visit any 1 of our 12 locations, one of our experts would be happy to assist you in finding the right tires for your vehicle.

2.) What is the proper tire pressure for my vehicle?
We recommend checking the same label as above in the driver door jam or looking at your owner’s manual. You can also stop by any 1 of our locations and get your tire pressure checked for FREE!

3.) How do I know I need new tires?
Signs that you need new tires include bulges or blisters that could, eventually lead to tire failure. Other signs may include cracks or cuts on the tires sidewalls. Paying attention that you have the proper tire tread is important for your safety and driving experience.

4.) If I purchase a tire from Adirondack Tire, can I mount it onto the wheel myself?
Our automotive technicians are trained to make sure your visit to Adirondack Tire is a full-service experience which includes the option of a complete installation package. However, customers do have the option for “cash and carry” and can buy tires and mount them.

5.) Why are winter tires preferable in the winter season?
Winter tires are recommended in the winter because the tires are specifically designed for winter driving conditions-roads with ice, snow and slush under 45 degrees.

6.) Can I use my winter tires all year long?
We recommend not using winter tires beyond the seasonal time frame. The best option for drivers is to have all-season tires to alternate between seasons.

7.) Why is tread important?
Tire tread is important because it allows your vehicle to remain in contact with the road which allows a safer, solid foundation while driving.

8.) Can my flat tire be fixed instead of replaced?
In some cases, yes. The damage to your tire varies and it is best advised to visit any local Adirondack Tire so that our automotive experts can access your tire and help you make the safest decision for your vehicle.

9.) Does Adirondack Tire “patch” flat tires?
Yes, we patch flat tires. Once the tire is damaged, it must be unmounted for proper repair and we seal the tire from the inside.

10.) What should I do when my TPMS light comes on?
The TPMS system on your vehicle is not always a definitive indicator of your tire pressure. You are best advised to check your tires once a month to make sure your tire pressure is at the recommended level as indicated on your door placard or in your owner’s manual.

11.) If my tire shreds, what does that mean?
The tire industry refers to tires in this condition as “run flat” which refers to a tire that has lost air, whether it is from a slow loss or an immediate loss and then subsequently run on. As it reaches the “runflat” stage, serious internal damage can occur which is caused by the excessive deflection of the casing. If the air loss continues, the inside of the deflected sidewall can actually rub against itself.

12.) If my tire has exposed cords, is this hazardous?
If the cord material of your tire has become visible, this is cause for an immediate tire replacement as it is hazardous for driving.

13.) What do the letters and numbers on the sidewalls of my tires mean?
This indicates the types of tires, treads and condition of the tires.
